Ellz’s LsFd build

So after the first few drives it was clear that 225/40s weren’t enough to put down the torque from the v8 and cause of the size of the wheels I couldn’t go any bigger in tire without overfenders so I found a nice set of buddyclub p1’s
17x9 et 47 they sit perfect on the car and clear everything with 255/45 tyres
Quite like they colour too

So spent the evening removing the intake manifold to find the source of an air leak that made the car idle really bad
Turns out there’s a plug at the back of intake that was letting the air in so sealed that up and changed the seal for the pap sensor as that was damaged cleaned everything there was a few ports that could have been plugged a bit better so done that and put it all back together and it’s idling better than ever
Winner winner
And put a plate on it

Been busy the last few days tidying things up and getting ready for the mot

Painted the brakes

Polished the intake

Had a problem with trapped air in the coolant so had to faf around to sort that
Drilled some small holes in the thermostat housing to allow a little bit of flow and help bleed the air

So I went to start the car today to get some petrol and drop the car to the garage and the starter motor exploded

Spent the whole day trying to find another one and another fd owner got in touch with one
After a 4 hour drive I fitted it and it worked perfect expect for catching on the flex plate making a horrible noise
No mot for me now :(

That sucks. I had a few MOT aborts myself so I know how it feels.

I don't quite understand how that happened though. Is your flex play not fitted properly?

I had to remove a lot of material from the original Ls1 starter to get it to fit in the hole in the adapter plate and I think I weakened it too much

So I managed to sort the noisy starter motor by opening the holes up and mounting it a bit further back and it seems to have done the trick

First drive to the petrol station was scary as I’ve never driven the car on the road
7miles there and back and there was no major issues but the car has a strange misfire/hessitation at low load low revs when you give it some throttle it clears but it’s strange

dropped the car off at the garage to be taken for an mot so fingers crossed
