Ellz’s LsFd build

Managed to find some seats in Scunthorpe
Almost definitely reps but they fee pretty sturdy, got some funny looks taking them up to my hotel room

The seats came with mx5 rails that weren’t very different from the Rx7 pattern so I extended them today and got the driver’s side seat mounted, had to use some scrap to level the seat( cleaned them after) ;)
Not sure if I’ll fit the passenger side, I’d feel bad if couldn’t take passengers with over a 34” waist haha

Looks great! I have some MK1/2 MX5 side mounts that I’m planning to use in mine as they came cheap so wondered if I could pick your brain? Did you just have to add that small section? Looks like about 15mm if so that’s wicked!

18x 55 on both rears with a 5mm bend on either side to match the original

Front right hand side needed to be offset about 10mm and extended a bit
Front right had to be extended 10mm ish

I did find that the Rx7 rails would have worked with the side mounts with a small extension

Awesome bodgery.. I mean.. “adaptions” 👍🏻👍🏻 Great work mate!

Lol @ the 34” waist comment to 😂

I'm planning to have smaller seats for the passengers, keep the fat chicks out.... And if the Mrs eats too many pies it will be a subtle hint for her to get her fat ass on the treadmill

Made some progress with the steering rack mounting yesterday
I’m very weary of this part as it’s quite important to do it right

Put the cds bar In place and tacked just need to make some brackets to hold the rack now
I’ve broken a rib or torn the muscle there so it’s a nightmare getting under the car and back up so gonna take a little break

Is the floor level?

Only asking as I tried to do something similar and couldn't figure out a good datum on the car so sacked it off.

My ribs are better now so got back at it today
Been racking my brain about how to go around mounting the steering rack
I took loads of measurements when the original subframe was in but my comments make no sense so started over and decided to weld the original centre section onto the drop plates that I’ve welded onto the original subframe mountings And mount the rack off there with some stilts to work out a decent place where it’s out the way

Made up some mounting plates for the rack too, I’ve got a 80k Cnc brake press at work but annoyingly the recessed section is too small for me to fold with the tooling we have :( bent it up with a hammer, vice and a bit of stainless plate, fits ok and although it’s 2mm it should be plenty strong enough when it’s supported with the side plates

It’s going to be tight on the UJ but I should be able to notch the drivers side subframe mount to clear and I’m going to have to lengthen the drop links to give a bit more clearance between the anti roll bar and the tie rods

Absolute shit cunt of a job and I really wish I just bought a aftermarket subframe but hay ho no going back now

Had to move the subframe down 20mm to clear the yoke of the rack which was a pain but managed to get some mounts made up today and tacked in
Passenger side mounts are made but not on yet

Made some good progress with the subframe today the steering rack mounts are on and boxed up
Just need to make some diagonal bars to link to the rear subframe mounts then it can be powered coated

Cut up an expensive techno toy tuning brace bar I had for my old ae86 to make the links for the rear portion of the subframe mounting, put a new blade on my mitre saw and it cut through like a dream

Tacked the bars In place this eve but I ran out of time and have to go away working again so will pick it up next week some time
