Briggsy's TCP Magic Track Project

Hey bud, where is House of Flock located and what sort of price? This could work well on my track car too. Looks good.

He is over Glastonbury way so a bit away from you but he has an RX7 as well and was recommended to me from Brett on here with the yellow TCP 7.

He quoted me around £180 for the removal of my sh*t flock and the flocking of all those bits.

Looks nice pretty cheap too
Cheers mate, he was cheaper than another company I looked at and from what I have seen I cannot fault the work at all!
Hopefully I'll have it in the shell next month when I'm back home and the seats etc mounted too, should give an idea of what it will look like

Not a huge update, but got the radium fuel cell ready for when the shell goes over to the bodyshop to get some fab work done and then hopefully fit the kit and get the whole thing re-sprayed.

The quality is awesome and I cannot wait to see this mounted in the boot! Will have the radium fuel cell surge tank when I have decided on which fuel pumps etc I want/need.

Look forward to seeing this progress. How much headroom do you have with the cage? I note you are quite tall and this is the challenge with a caged FD. Also what made you go for the fuel cell? Will you be racing? Was there a benefit over the ATL offering? Did Radium give any indication as to how often the bladder should be replaced?

It's going to be tight with headroom, I do have some low seat rails so hopefully when I can install them properly, it gives me a bit more room.

If I'm honest I do not need an FIA cell and could have easily managed with a standard fuel cell and a surge tank, however I do love the look of having a fuel cell installed in the boot area, which was initially what got me interested. Obviously the benefits of having an in tank surge system etc will be beneficial when I do come to tracking it, but no I won't be racing as such, probably just track days to start with and see how it goes from there.

With the bladder it is just a case of regular inspections and replace when required, as opposed to a set time.

I've got a Recaro SPG which sits on runners, but I've tweaked them so the bottom of the seat at the rear is pretty much on the carpet. I had to grind the hex on the rear bolts (runner to floor) down to make it work. I sit more reclined than I would normally and that has given me enough room with a helmet without a cage (only 6', but quite long in the back). I looked at a car with a cage by Custom Cages and the main roll hoop was too far forward to allow me to sit in my current reclined position. With the seat more upright my head had no room and was made worse by the diagonal bar (yours doesn't have). The car had an AP floor mounted pedal box, but the MCs were behind the pedals which made the leg room tight too. To make it work, my plan would have been to remove the diagonal above the driver and make a lowered floor, but I still wasn't 100% sure it would be enough. Fingers crossed for you!

RE the fuel cell, the car I looked at had an ATL which had previously been mounted under the boot floor, but was currently where the passenger seat should be. It got me looking into the cost of a potential replacement bladder and the fittings needed to be able to fill the car externally, rather than trying to hang onto the rear hatch in the wind while trying to fill it up. It added up quite quickly!

Yeah I think I'll be sitting a bit more reclined than I usually would due to being taller. Hopefully the seat rails allow me to have the seat low like yours to ensure clearance. I am getting the pedal box I have re-fitted, as I'm not happy with how it has been fitted previously, so this could allow for slightly more space depending how we decide to do it when I can get it to the garage. Hopefully it all goes to plan, but so far, nothing has gone that way 😂 so I think I just need to pray that this time it does!!

Yeah this set up is going to end up costing a fortune, due to the reasons you mention, but hopefully what I have pictured in my head comes to fruition and the car I want is as good, both visually and mechanically, as I imagine.

Something to consider when mounting the fuel cell (assuming under boot floor) is reserving plenty of room for exhaust silencing. Aim to have the maximum capacity silencers and make sure they are easily repackable. It's tedious stressing about noise at the track, or ruling out the quieter tracks like Bedford or Brands etc. The car I looked at had 2 pipes running either side of the diff with 2 silencers either side of the fuel cell when it had been mounted there. Depends on your engine spec of course as to how much of a concern this might be. I've rebuilt my mid silencer twice and my rear has needed doing for a second time for a while now.

Yeah I did think about this and asked the question about being able to have the required space to ensure the exhaust can still run the normal route and will allow to have silencers to hopefully meet noise restrictions.
I'm not planning anything crazy engine wise, Street port with a BW EFR 8374 is the plan at the moment, hopefully run between 400-450bhp quite comfortably.

Not a massive update, but is hopefully the start of some big progress that should be happening in the next few months.

My R-Magic headlights have been sprayed to give me an idea of whether I like the yellow that is being used and the buckets got hydro dipped in crushed carbon, which was a surprise, but gives them something else as opposed to just being black.

I have only seen them in photos but so far, I love the look of them and if they look as good in person, I cannot wait to see the project fully sprayed.

Next weekend I get the project in to the bodyshop, where some welding work will get done on the roll cage, my radium fuel cell gets installed as well as some other bits, then hopefully, the body kit will be fitted and the whole things gets re-sprayed.

So while I wait for the middle of next month when my TCP kit will finally arrive at Southampton docks, the car is in the bodyshop getting a lot of the s**t sorted that unfortunately had been done to the shell before.

Anyway, the guys are taking their time with it (due to my request) so are only doing a day or so a week on it, until it goes to get a new roll cage sorted.

I will try and get these photos in order, but I'm sure you'll be able to tell the before/afters anyway.

Still isn't the most attractive thing, but as you can see, a lot of the remaining carbon skin that had been fitted has been removed and the resin has been taken off and sanded then covered with a layer of primer to protect the shell.

Where the previous wide arches were, the holes have been flattened down and welded and again, been primered to protect the metal.

The arches at the rear that have been cut are going to be getting some attention soon, as well as a few small dents in the roof, from when the carbon skin was pulled off.

It feels like an absolute age since I have had anything positive to feel towards this project, but with the TCP kit on a ship as I type this, and the guys at Dip Demons working their magic fixing all the things that are wrong, I am finally starting to feel happy with it again and now cannot wait to see how it will look by the end of this year!!

So finally have some decent updates, albeit wiyhout the best photos as I was in a rush. But finally managed to test fit some of the TCP Magic Ultimate kit and to say I'm excited is an understatement!!

Also, the guys have sanded my bonnet due to it having blistered and discovered that apart from the repair patch, it is actually carbon fibre and not fibreglass like I was led to believe, so that was a positive!!

And finally, after my bodge job, I now have a perfectly cut rear bumper to accommodate my chassis mount wing.

Fingers crossed it won't be too long until the kit is properly fitted and sprayed.

So after discovering the paint job in the engine bay was completely sh*te, we decided to take the bay back to bare metal to ensure that it doesn't cause problems later on down the line. So here are some images of it in bare metal with all paint removed and then in etch primer.

Not long now until the car should get pieced together and the body kit gets fitted and sprayed!

To say I'm excited is an understatement.

Looking forward to seeing this come together - as I'm sure you are 😁👌
Haha thanks man! I honestly can't, all going well and the space being available for them to spray it, it should have the kit fully fitted and the exterior and engine bay resprayed yellow this side of Christmas 😍

I'm hoping that will be the end of my rotten luck and next year I can push on and make some more proper progress

Not updated much recently due to being away with work and generally busy with other things going on.
Since the last update I managed to go to SEMA show, lucky timing with being in the states with work anyway, and managed to see some absolutely epic builds, as well as a few RX7s.

Back on to my build, I have now had the awful roll cage removed from the shell and I am currently looking to purchase a pre fab one (potentially custom cages or AST Rollcages) which will mean that by February/March, the interior, exterior and engine bay should be sprayed and looking the part! I have also had all of my TCP Magic TT kit test fitted, which has now given me an idea of how wide, aggressive and crazy this thing is going to look like next year. Only downside is that with no weight in the car and the small, narrow wheels, it looks like an off roader.
