Lol I used to have a suction grabber thing. Was like a claw and held any size of phone. Loads on amazon

Was good but vibrations on the motorway eventually made it snap. I only used it as sat nav like

I have an apple carplay stereo so I just plug the phone in with a cable I ran to the glove box. I leave it in there all the time.

I have one in the pickup, but I feel scammed as it really is piss poor, you can only run apple apps through it. So the Tomtom won’t work with the CarPlay and it randomly starts to play stuff from the phone

I have this ugly thing that looks like it has heaps of legs that you can mould to any shape you want, perfect for mounting your phone from the centre heater vents and you cant see it when the phone in it and i cannot mind what its called but it works really well

what stereo is it? i can only see double din ones and as i don't use the car much i was look at a cheap china one but always dubious!

I bought an app radio thing. Never again. Shite. Took it back to Halfords and swapped it for their cheapest double din

it’s a pioneer avh-x8700bt??? Cost about £600 2 years ago in sale. Just really disappointed in the whole thing. The way apple has stopped developers having code to access the CarPlay is probably the worst part of it.
After a very long time with Apple, this has prompted me to move to android.

Mines an Pioneers AppRadio 4. As above, you need to closely look at the apps that are supported by Apple / Android when you decide to go with one or the either for a car play style setup.

Im more than happy with the Apple offering and the additional functions the headunit provides. I have my phone apps (where supported) I have handsfree which also rings when people call through whatsapp or facebook messenger which is really handy. I also have a reversing camera as well.

yes have CarPlay in my merc and Audi and happy enough with that, just didn't want to spend big money as i only do about 2k a year in the 7 but like the fact it has a reverse camera, is that your ebay add or just the same model?

Just the same unit as I use bud. You can use any old cheap cam on it too. I think my cam kit was about £7 from China.

Are you using the Apple Car Play side or the Android Auto? Ive heard android auto is a bit more lax on which apps you can run through the head units.
Using Apple side, CarPlay works it’s just disappointing

I've got some sort of Sony Head Unit which plays a video graphic like Fast and Furious all the time. Got no aerial so use "Tune In Radio" on my IPhone and plug it into the "AUX" port on the head unit and it plays perfectly clear through the speakers (Phone is mounted on a magnet that attaches to the windscreen with a suction cup). Can also use it handsfree and Satnav using Google Maps (better than my 8 for tihs) :)

Andy there is an aerial embedded into the rear windscreen. As long as the wire is still there behind The headunit you should be good (y)
