Does anyone know what this box, with the plug hanging out, is and does?

It's on the back of the trim below the steering wheel.

I've gone to put this trim panel back on, but there's no where for it to plug in to! Anyone know what it plugs in to?

Ive seen it on late cars. I suspect @Ceylon will know more than me. Im not entirely sure but it could either be a factory turbo timer or something to do with central locking?

Interestingly, my central locking stopped working at the same time as its removal... i’ll dig a little deeper.

I've got the same on my 99 and I believe it is for central locking. It doesn't work unless it's plugged in.

Yeah tom reckons central locking the same jit and roy šŸ‘
There's ya go adam, find that central locking harness šŸ˜†

... i've hunted high and low. No Ah Ha moment so far... does anyone know if it plugs into a harness with a socket hanging out, or to a box fixed under the dash? I'm hoping it's a box which is out of sight.

Fixed. Total bastard. It's the "passenger door lock timer" that was an upgrade to the green box, also under the dash, that was installed with a remote wireless key. I had plugged the dangling harness plug into the green... not the black box. Thanks guys (y)
