Short day!! This was the only session on track and I think I had already chipped the apex seal at this point. I was still outgunning that porsche but he was on my arse every braking zone. Fuck those porsches can stop well with a decent driver. Anyhoo last one for a while.

Ah really gutted for you neil! This is kinda why I don't want to use mine on track too much! Fingers crossed that the chip went out the exhaust and not round your housing mate!

Tell you what though, hearing your car has filled me with confidence with my noise test! How loud
Was yours that day? Mines nowhere near that inside!

104 mate. Don't be put off track by that mate my compression was down into the 4s. If it hadn't gone then it would have probably gone on my way to Manchester in bh traffic.

True enough! Wow 104! That's defo promising. I reckon I was definately on the wrong setting as I'm getting 102 on idle and that was with the arse jacked right in the air so the exhaust was pointing to the sky! I can barely hear the exhaust inside the car now lol!

1 thing I never thought was to try it on the tigra as it has standard exhaust. Surely if that's over 100 then im defo on the wrong setting! Gonna go try now lol

Thursday Tom. I wouldn't mind it was a lovely day for trackdays until fate stepped in. No the r8 was a novice and first trackday. You can see him getting a wobble on exiting the hairpin. I was straightline a bit quicker than the white porsche but he was a way better driver. He knew how to get the most from that car for sure.

@jdmr_neil ........ when you've been on the track, do they check your car over for leaks etc? I have 2 small oil leaks, I don't think I've got anything to worry about as they only leave tiny patches in the shed! But still you never know!

No mate, they don't but since the turbo swap I'm quite religious about oil leaks. Tbh if you knew Bec my wife you would know why, dropping oil on the drive is not appreciated. My fd has never used any oil and still doesn't so I'm quite cautious and locate any drops pretty quick.

Leave a flattened box or an old sheet out under the car to locate the drop and nip it up.

You losing much like?

They don't do any checks really bar a noise test. If your dropping oil or have shite having of your car you will be black flagged anyway.

Haha my wife has just got used to it! Mam was the one to get pissed off with the oil. Especially after dropping 2 litres of diff oil and then 2 litres of box oil directly on the drive due to split buckets ? the smell was atrocious ?
Tiny dribble on oil driver cooler.tried nipping it up but looks like it needs a new washer. Also tiny dribble on engine mounts.
Leaves a couple of spots after an hour of parked up. No biggie as they won't see it on the floor. They'll just see it if they look under the car ?

What's the plans for the rebuild??

That motor has done well. How many miles did you clock up on it.

I did about 37k on that rebuild but it was pretty hard miles.

As for the future I'm either going for a drop in engine or if that doesn't work out (really hoping it does as it will get me back on the road sooner) or I will be getting my engine stripped down.

Not planning any major work internally as i was really starting to get a feel for that set up.

This was the only lap i got out before my day ended. If you notice the "loom band" ( those without kids, it's like rubber bands the kids make bracelets etc with) hanging from my rear view mirror below the fdoc sticker you can see I'm turning hard right. I'm very very happy with how the suspension is sitting almost equal.

It's heartbreak with your toy of 11years sitting broken in the garage 😫

Nevermind mate, slow and steady wins the race! You'll soon be back out there! The engine will be out before you know it 👍

Yeah I know mate, I'm not starting to pull this one until i know which direction a running engine is coming from first.

Get it out and look at the gubbins! Maybe worth just replacing the apex seal or seals that have gone? Check everything's in spec and I reckon you'll do all that for less than 300 quid! Worth a go if it's going back on the track?

Ah shit yeah I forget about that bit 😂 tbf though all you need is a 10mm, 12mm and a 14mm socket a jack and axle stands, a pair of pliers and 54mm socket 😎😂😂

Yeah I quite fancy the project and looking at engine hoists atm. Counter to this though it will take me a while juggling family/work with actually getting left alone in the garage to crack on. So the other side tells me to get it on a trailer and just stump the money to get it back on the road.

I'm just waiting now to find out about v8 Neil's engine when it arrives as a straight drop in is the best of both worlds.

Remember mate this engine has done 11years of predominately hard miles. I expect when i do finally open it, it's likely to need a good clean up and seals at the very least.
