Evening all, thinking of doing the t56 gearbox conversion as I think the stock box is rubbish. It’s been rebuilt by a gearbox specialist place but don’t think it can take the power and the high rpm changes. Has anyone here swapped boxes, auto is out of the question. Seen a company in the us and it’s about $6k. Just want to get any feedback about the swap before I dive in

Make sure its a Magnum or a TR6060, rather than the plain old T56. I've got a Camaro TR6060 (behind the LS3) with a modified MGW short shifter. I like the shift, but heavy boxes aren't as slick. Magnum gives you some ratio options if buying new. TR6060 will need a CV or sliding joint on the propshaft.

The one they offer is a magnum and you can opt for ally or carbon prop

Cd009 box out of a 350z maybe a better option, plenty about cheap and they can hold the power
I have seen them but from what I can gather it seems like the parts that you need to get made up and little odd and sods it becomes more expensive than the magnum

Just had a look at the kit. Something to consider, the transmission support mounts to the tunnel brace brackets. A few v8 conversions have ripped these out. Have a look at the Ronin Speedworks method (previously Samberg). Expensive conversion by the time it's shipped to the UK with duty paid.

I’d echo what’s been said about the T56 shift feel, I’ve got a T56 with the standard GTO shifter and the feel isn’t great.

Does the kit include the support for the front of the diff, such as using the PPF mounted to the box or a cross brace to support the diff?

It does seem expensive when delivery and import tax’s are taken into account, is it getting to the price area of gearsets for the FD gearbox? The later S2000 gearbox would be an option to look at if the ratios work, I remember the shift feel on that being good.
