Hi Lads,
Currently on the hunt for a single turbo set up for my FD,
Car has currently stock twins,PFC, Electronic boost controller,Standard injectors standard rails and stock ports.

What would people recommend and what are people running on their cars?
I know this is down to personal preference but just want pick peoples brains about it, and peoples experiences on different turbos.

I have sourced a Garrett GT3571 for sale and theres a T15R for sale on here i think but im thinking the t15r would be a bit much on my set up and also on the road.

All comments/suggestions welcome :)
Thanks

What are your power goals? What is the car used for? What is your budget?

Have a look at the Borg Warner EFR range. 7670 will spool very quickly on stock ports :)

You going to need to double your budget for something high end.

Tbh I think you will end up with a borgwarner s362-sxe and a cheaper end of the scale manifold.

You also need to remember you will need bigger injectors, mapping session a downpipe etc. So budget about a grand or so for that too..

Yep you'll need injectors first (y) and maybe a fuel pump system? Fuel system costs more than a fucking turbo

Also depends what you want out of the car, you don't want a big drag turbo if you're only on the road

Pretty much what @Nas80 said. Will also probably need a bigger intercooler and a few other bits and bobs which add to the costs quite quickly

Don't forget you will need a decent wastegate, intercooler and radiator upgrade as well.

Probably a clutch too if you haven't got an uprated one.

Are you planning on doing the job yourself? 2k won't be enough to include labour. Just getting the twin turbos off is a real pain in the arse on its own.

God help you if you snap a stud or something.

350-400 bhp, car is just a weekend car, and maybe 1 or 2 track-days, budget is around 2000.

Stay on twins :)

As everyone else has said you'll spend the same again on intercooler, radiator, fuel system and mapping. Assuming that 2k is for a second hand kit?

Stay on twins, with a fuel pump, regulator and a boost controller you will see 360-370

Cheers for the comments lad,

Sorry forgot to add the problem with my twins is that there is a seal gone in one of them, not sure which one.
I had planned on staying on twins but when i went for a mapping session last week the tuner said and show me that there is a seal gone on one of the turbos. so i would have to recondition the turbos, if i was staying on twins.

I have a v mount intercooler and planning on getting a aluminium rad soon.
Fuel pump is a walbro 255

Ah, in that case you might want to up your budget a fair bit. Second hand turbos are a lottery, you could buy a cheap one and it'll be a bargain, or you could spend a wad and the turbine will be chipped to fuck and the bearings cooked. New turbos are not cheap, add to that a decent manifold and wastegate plus bigger injectors and an FPR.

Rebuilding twins will be cheapest option but if you can find a good second hand turbo then you can do it on a budget (y) although IMO I'd rather spend the money on a decent setup which will be more than £2k

EFR turbos are the top end ones 8374 or the smaller 7670, or you could go with the SXE range. Garrett GT35R used to be the turbo of choice so you'll want something that kind of size anyway, 0.9 A/r for road use. depends what you want mate.

Reading this makes me think I’ll be staying with my twins a looooong time.
May even start looking into a second hand set now to rebuild ready over time

I got a set of spare twin turbos. I was gonna stick them on eBay later this week.

I must have easily spent 5k on this turbo setup so far. It really stacks up. You defo need 2x your budget to do it correctly

I dread to think how much mine cost but the turbo alone was £1700 and fuel system must be £1500-2k
