Reupholstering RZ recaro seats

Has anyone had the RZ recaros reupholstered? I've seen it being discussed in the thread about seat options and am wandering whats the best way to get them looking good again. Mine are a bit tired and have had a panel replaced in the past which really doesn't match. Is there anywhere the covers can be purchased from? Or is it a case of having a company reupholster them?

Try yahoojapan covers sometimes pop up. But you can get them retrimmed at around 1k

I am not sure about 1k. But i know someone who has retrimmed his rzs for alot less. Its all about searching. I am talking from experience...

It largely depends but I dont see quality job dependent upon money. I guess, quality job depends on "how much someone cares about his/her profession in the field". I know people on this forum whom have paid big money for quality jobs, but they got horrible results for the big money they paid... expensive is not always the way, its the business ethics which matters - and that retrimming was the prove of it.

I am sure you can get a good enough job done for under 1k, if you search around you can always find a cheaper option which you would be happy with.

If you were after a show car finish then someone like @Cyman would be my first choice as I have seen his quality of workmanship on other cars.

Hmmm I think maybe you should approach this from the other way. No one ever gets a good job going cheap. Cheap leather or fake alcantara will not get you a good seat that will last.

Yes I agree that there are bad craftsman out there that will charge you a lot of money and if you find one of those you will never be happy.

If you find a trimmer and they are charging you around £30-40 per hour and are only using quality leather and proper alcantara then it will end up costing around a grand. Just remember it's no different to anything else look into their work ask for pictures and proof of finish and make sure you make it clear in an email what you want and expect from the finish that way you will get what you want and not something they are trying to fob you off with.

There is a local trimmer I have used before. They've done repairs for me in the past but they are very expensive. I haven't spoken to them yet as I would expect they would want a lot of money to reupholster a whole seat and wasn't expecting to be paying 1k. I was wandering if there was an option to purchase the covers but having had a look that's not a cheap option either.

Has anyone got photos of seats they've had done so I could see what a reupholstered finish is like?

I think it depends on a few things also. Material: the original rz material is expensive, i know of a set covered in leather and a great job done alas without the recaro inlay.

Brings me on to whether you have recaro stitched back in.

I dare say in a run of the mill material they could be done nicely, but who doesn't want alcatara.

Ideally, you want quality automotive alcantara that is resistant to fading as the Recaro fabric goes pink pretty quick. I've got custom ESH covers on mine, pretty pleased with them. I know the guys stopped making covers for the Recaro's late last year, but Austin was planning on making OEM replicas (Standard red or black) again sometime soon, just not taking custom orders anymore.

I've seen a lot of custom covers that get the font for the Recaro logo wrong...That would really bug me!

Had a look at the ESH ones, they look good. I might email them to see if they plan on making any. Although $1500 before shipping so still pretty pricey.

I'm looking to get my red leather seats re-coloured and refreshed rather than retrimmed. Any recommendations in the London or Birmingham area?

what colour are they and what colour do you want to go to?? I might be able to put you in contact with some people I would recommend or you can travel down to me in sunny Weymouth to do

I had leather seats re coloured and refreshed by @Cyman on a Porsche Boxster and he did a great job, well worth the journey if you can make it.

They are the dark red. Going to stick to that and just give them a recolour.

Sounds good. I could make a weekend of it. I can send pics of the extent of the damage to whoever. The bolsters look ok. Leather is cracked and discoloured. Drivers seat is the worst. As per usual.

I’m in the process of getting my Recaro RZ seats recovered. Once I get them I can share some photos of the end result. Hopefully will have them in a week or two. I opted to use a standard automotive seat fabric to see how they turn out.

Would be good to see some photos once they're done. Would like to know how much it cost as well if you don't mind saying.

Still don't know the final cost. We are waiting on the material. Hopefully will report back soon with photos and cost estimates.
