Replacement rear calipers

Depends how much a rebuild kit is Vs a caliper as some Mazda calipers are so affordable it's not worth messing about

Round £20 for seals and £8-20 for each piston IIRC. I did mine earlier this year and they are night and day difference from how they were after 20 odd years.

I have found these https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts...mazda/rx-7/rx-7-iii-fd/6033-wankel-twin-turbo

Front and rear calipers for FD's from various brands other than Sumitomo for the fronts and same for rears, quite well priced too, was wondering if anyone had tried them, or has an idea of why or how Brembo make a front caliper for FD's for £100? https://www.autodoc.co.uk/brembo/7778078

Seems almost too good to be true

I believe they are reman/refurb parts based on the core charge comment. Weirdly they are all out of stock too. I buy from Autodoc and have used the Budweg seals successfully, but they have been out of stock of those for the RX7 for quite some time now. There is a UK distributor, think its called Brakes International.

I got my seals from Biggredd and pistons from another U.K based brake seller on Ebay.

I did think they could be re-mans, just weird the prices vary according to brand, and I've never heard of Brembo etc doing re-furbs for non brand products?

TBH I didn't notice that they are all out of stock :ROFLMAO: kinda closes the door on them anyway lol.
Shame as for the fronts, £80 odd per caliper after the exchange is a pretty good price, even more so if you have really corroded ones or stuck rusted sliders.
Mine were £71 for 8 front pistons and £23 for seals so £46 odd each in parts alone.

I've only used Autodoc for bit for our e91 never Rx stuff.

I originally used Biggredd for the rears (Stoptech fronts), but I had issues with them. Tried 2 sets with the same outcome. After 2 trackdys the pedal would go soft and the car wouldn't stop that well. Had to left foot tap the brake just before needing them. Went across the gravel at Silverstone as a result once. Never had an issue after using Budweg (5+ years). On my 2nd set purely due to cooking the dust boots. The main seal appeared to be a larger diameter than the Biggred offering, but I was comparing used with new. My theory was that the Biggred seal was letting air in when I came off the brakes.

If you look closely at the Brembo image, there is also a Budweg logo in the centre. I wouldn't be surprised if Brembo outsource.

TBH it's the girlfriend's E86 that gets the Autodoc attention. Just received a full set of Budweg seals and pistons from them this week among other parts.

Ahh yeh I see the Budweg logo in between them..

And that's interesting, and abit scary lol. I have exactly the same issue with the two hits to get them working, but I'm 99% sure its the N/S/F hard pipe between the caliper and or hose for me as I keep getting air in that line after bleeding. I swapped my old calipers on the front while rebuilding this cars ones - used a Biggredd kit on them and they seemed good. I'll put them back and have a check when the weather lets me.

I used Frenntech uk for front seals this time, they did seem better than the Biggredds, maybe thicker and less brittle? the clips were too small tho..

I used Biggredd for my rears, and they were pretty good at Snett, the fronts were being ropey ^^ so I was having to use that much pressure the rears would have mini lock ups while down shifting lol. Hopefully they hold out, they haven't done many miles yet really.

And the handbrake propperly works now 😝

I'll be driving past Mazda on my way home tomorrow, I'll find out how much they can do them for

I'd just go genuine Mazda for the seal kits. It's about double the price of big red but includes more parts and the correct grease types for the different parts.

I've used other rebuild kits before the more complete Mazda kits are worth the extra outlay.

Mazda in Bristol (Wessex) was a no go said they didn't sell calipers or rebuild kits. Didn't give me a Japan import choice one of the other guys would in the past for interior parts....

Gave me the part numbers tho....

FD01-26-980A
FD01-26-990A

Googled the number, nothing for sale.....

Well I've fitted the rebuilt fronts with the ebay brands I listed above now and can report that my brakes feel flipping awesome, I've never felt brakes like this in an FD - they are easily as good as any modern stuff, bar abs.

Hopefully they'll be a fit and forget, we'll see..

Cool, so I couldn't have got Mazda then anyway, that's made me feel a little better after what @Ceylon and @4packet have said about biggredd lol,

Spent a while trying to find bits and information but it's not exactly easy to track down...

So ended up on Nengun, for the "Mazda Rear Seal & Gasket Set" - FDY12646Z looks to be £49.42 before shipping.

Shipping is anywhere between £6.69 and £29.

Never bought from Nengun before but would probably like some other minor bits if I'm gonna import some bits.... Could get expensive!

Ideally if someone has somewhere in the UK that'll sell the kit that'll be much easier!

I’ve ordered both the front and rear seal kits from Brakes International, as Budweg put me in contact with them. If the part isn’t listed as in stock, I’d double check with them as I found they had more stock than was listed on the website.

From their website they have the rear caliper kit as BCK3519 at £21.32 and just the seal kit as BCS3519 at £8.70.

Amayama is also good too but it can take a bit longer.

So I put in an order with "autodoc" for a rebuild kit about a month ago but didn't turn up, could see the courier just passing it back and forth. Contacted them earlier and they said they're being returned to Germany.... Possibly due to boarder issues with covid.....

Asked them to refund me which they will but not until they've received it.....

Ordered genuine Mazda bits from Nengun this evening as I've actually had some t-shirts arrive from Japan really quickly a week ago so hopefully some better luck!

Back to square one, Nengun messed me about and then said it was going to cost me extra so got a refund.

Mazda rotary parts have been pointed in the direction of biggred.com which will refurb mine. Once it's had the exhaust tweaked in a week or so I'll take them off and get them to do it fingers crossed.
