Has anybody ever removed the rear dust shield from the hub? Have removed wheel bearing & it seems like it's pressed onto the hub under the stub axle but doesn't want to budge trying to lever it from underneath

Was hoping to separate them for blasting & painting so don't want to damage them

IIRC you have to remove the wheel bearing, which usually ends in it getting destroyed. Your only other option is to cut the shield.

As Gunnytron mentions the centre needs to be pressed out naffing the bearing.

Once this is done they are only pressed on to the hub and can be carefully removed.

Yes have already pressed the bearing out & can see the shield seems to be pressed onto the hub & I have tried prying it from underneath but it won't budge I just end up putting a crease in it.

Thought I might be missing something or there is a trick to it? Will have another crack at prying it Thanks

EDIT: Deleted my post as I realised I was getting mixed up with the fronts.

I don't remember how/if I took mine off. Looking at pics you might have to pry the lip down or cut a slot near the hub so you can bend it off.

I used a slim, wide scrapper tapped in behind the dust shield.

Mine were fairly mint. I guess there could be corrosion in there causing an issue.

Fire and Penetrating fluid?
