So after not much progress with my project of (15+years), life and kids now grown up! I started the re:vival process. It is a 92 import fd.

The car has what i believe to be a 1st version of the re:amemiya sleek light kit H11. From the pictures online they looked to have updated the light units.
I hadn't paid much attention to lights when it comes to road MOT UK compliance rules regulations. Lights are lights! I was wrong to assume.

I do like the look and style and with the frame having been cut i don't see myself going back to pop ups and to be honest i prefer the sleek light look too.

Here is a good up close picture of the light units.

Has anyone sucessfully upgraded the light units on these? I am essentially exploring all possible options that might be out there. I did come accross

Concept-7 Headlight Kit (Dual 90mm Hella) Mazda FD RX7

I have asked Martin if they are UK road legal for clarity, I see that description mentions US and EU.

Not sure Martin has any in stock. However you 'might be able to fab something up with hella 90mm lights and mounting frames.

The Hella 90 projector units are much deeper compared to the IPF originals but work awesome. I recall there was a good thread 'how to' on FDUK some years ago where someone did the same quite successfully.

I’ve got the same lights and driving by candle light would probably be a good description of the output. I think the original IPF units are actually fog lights.

I’ve been trying to decide whether go back to pop ups with a Bi-LED module or keep the RE-A sleek lights but with updated LED modules. I looked at some of the Morimoto units but they don’t have ECE approval.

The Hella 90mm halogen modules seem to be an option and would have better output, but Hella also have a couple of 90mm LED units that might fit, the R80 and the L 4060 with the L 4060 having more output. There are also Nolden 90mm units (G2 and G3) that could be an option. I haven’t got round to measuring the how far the IPF lights sit out from the mounting brackets yet to see if the either of units would fit. Both the Hella & Nolden lights appear to have approval.

So i am not the only one then! We can start a support group :).

I did see that they sell a revise upgrade http://www.re-amemiya.co.jp/commodity/?pid=d4bfd133&scd=7872 approx £380 plus tax and shipping. They are E13 marked suitable for Europe luxembourg might be wrong googled E13.

I dont have my car with me at present but does any one have picutured of the Sports Wiring System IPF loom connector. Where it connects into the existing wiring and pics of the connectors from the lamps to the loom. Trying to figure out what cabling will be required to make it work with hella units.

Here are some photos of my IPF wiring loom, it has x3 relays and the yellow wires appear to connect to the battery. I didn’t end up using these as I wired in a new relay & fuse box, with new sealed automotive connectors.

It appears to connect on one of the original light connectors

with bullet style connectors between the IPF lights and the relays.

The sidelights are spliced into the existing loom connector.
