Preferred spring rates

I'm looking in the near future to change my coilovers.

Mainly a street car but always driven spiritedly and will certainly be tracked in future, just wonder if what people's opinions are on preferred spring rates?

I really want to limit body roll as I'm running wide wheels at the rear and don't want to be catching the arches. I was looking at 12/12kg's.

Cheers,

That’s a good balance from my personal experience and with really good quality coilovers you can even get upto 16kg springs with good ride quality. Best thing for roll control by a mile is anti roll bars though, get yourself some Racing Beat ones and you will find the body control fantastic!

12s will be hard on the road whichever suspension you buy. Be it ohlins or 4 grand nitrons or £600 meisters/hsd.

For spirited street possible track i personally wouldn't touch over 10/8kg set up.
For a comfortable street cruising set up id go 8/6kg.
For a track only, start off with 12/10s and go from there until your out performing them.

Also don't forget polybushes and pillowballs have a huge impact on the ride. All of this is most noticeable on the road where the majority isn't flat, but cambered, bumpy and pot holed. With arb's the thickness is quite important as you want some roll, this helps load up the corners and makes the handling less snappy.

The Ohlins DFV (110N/mm) strike a pretty good balance with comfort on road and performance. The valving allows the wheel to move quickly over small bumps, but resists motion under slower forces such as cornering. This results in a more comfortable/controlled ride. Everyone has a different view on acceptable comfort on road though and it will depend what roads you drive. With stock ARB's I'd say 11kg is ideal on everything but the worst country road and will also manage trackday duty. Uprated ARB's make track work more satisfying. The Racing Beat rear is good, but the front is heavy as it's solid.

I wouldn't advise using spring rates to solve tyre rubbing. With 13F/11R I use the full suspension travel at the Nurburgring.

For track only I'd personally be aiming for around 16kg/mm. Depends on many variables though.

I use 10/9 with hsd monopro on the street and run the softest dampening. It actually rides better than it did stock. Wind them right up and it's bone shattering lol. But as above ARB's are what you want to control body roll most effectively.

It’s not all about spring rates. I had some feed coilovers with 14/14 and they were a lot nicer to drive than the 10/8 teins on my old pan speed FD that now belongs to @Fiddy

I have 8 rear 10 front. too soft for track IMO

I want to try 10 / 12
