As winter sets in it's time to start thinking about the to do list on the car.

I would like to replace the oil lines from engine to oil coolers, is there a kit you can buy or do they need making up.?

Also is it an easy job to do or does it need to be done my a mechanic ? as I am rubbish with any spannering.

If they're not leaking, split or showing signs of perishing leave them be. It's not a hard job but the fittings and hose are pricey if you're going to swap to AN/JIC.

Don't buy cheap Chinese fittings.

You can get a complete kit from sake bomb, there's a few other suppliers you can Google.

There's litterally no point in keeping the bent fins stock oil coolers if you doing this job.

when I did mine I think it cost around 600.

Thanks for the input.

The Oil Coolers are not the problem, while having some work done on the car recently it was picked up that the passenger side
lines had a couple of jubilee clips fitted at some time before I got the car so I need to replace the line.

The stock coolers are alumnium with a steel coupling screwed into them. This causes galvanic corrosion between the steel and the aluminium. Trying to unscrew the steel union from the ally cooler will likely fook the cooler. I suggest that you leave it all alone unless breakage is imminent. Maybe some clever clogs on here has an infallible way of separating the union from the cooler without damage. If so, pray do tell.

I had another Cooler fitted to the passenger side its just the oil line to that I want to replace, think I will book it in
somewhere.

Perhaps you can buy them.from the dealer?

Failing that go to pirtek or a hydraulic hose place and ask them to make you a new one from scratch?

No galvanic corrosion as there should be a copper washer between them. And besides you would leave to fitting and just replace the quick connector.

Pirtek is a good shout. Or you could pick one up second-hand from a breaker?

I had to buy the clips for the quick connect me from America so don't loose them if you're doing it!

Car is booked in next Saturday for replacement Oil Cooler lines, would love to have a go myself
but I always break something when in comes to spannering. and with something like Oil lines
they have to be done properly,

FFS - I need some help.

After posting above I moved the car to the center of the driveway to give her a clean, and then checked the Oil, started her up again
to move it back over and as I shut the door Oil started to pour out all over the driveway, not just a drop but litres of it from the drivers side,
I did not have to top it up when checking the oil..

When I looked inside the engine bay there was oil showing on the drivers side over the Rad fan as
well as some on that side, and some oil spray on the underside of the bonnet. the passenger side was dry which is where the jubilee
clips are fitted

I have removed the wheel arch liner and the tray under the cooler and can not see any hoses loose or any Oil showing on the drivers side
cooler.

Does anyone know a mobile mechanic who could come and have a look as I obviously can not move it, failing that anything else I could poss
look at.

Any help appreciated.

maybe your pipes have burst.

All been then such a PITA cleaning up litres of oil :(

I'd offer my help but you're pretty far away Alan!!!

Theres a few lines that side worth checking, apart from the cooler lines, the turbo feeds and returns are worth checking.

When this happened to me it was that rubber pipe from the front of the engine.

Imagine what it's like when that bursts at the top of third over a hot engine. The smoke was incredible, I actually thought the car was on fire.

Personally I would get it towed somewhere.

It’s likely either the connection down by the middle of the bay or the turbo oil feed line. My money is on the former if there’s oil on the rad fan

Thanks guys.

I will try and get home early from work today to have a look at the Oil feed line, I can not believe how far Oil spreads and need to
pick up some sand to chuck over it as well, The wife is not very happy as we have recently had the drive redone.

You have to remember oil pressure is around 6-8 bar when cold.

Use cat litter next time. It works way better then sand.

This is exactly why I spent loads of cash on a brand new setrab oil cooling system. I didn't trust 20+ year old hydraulic lines again after one split on my old FD.

I managed to get home a bit earlier today and with a bit of daylight left started to pull on everything I could
See and found this under the intercooler, very lucky I was not out driving when this went, the pic shows it after
I had pulled it apart.

I pushed it back in and managed to fit the surclip thing back in correctly, filled her with oil only to find the poxy battery was flat. I think I left the door open.

I will try and fire her up tomorrow evening. And see how it goes, fingers crossed she will be alright.

Thanks for you input guys.

Wish I had thought of cat litter as the sand is a right pain to sweep up, just waiting for the wife to come home and
Continue to moan about the driveway.
