SignUp Now!I spoke to renn performance earlier today and they were recommending them - approx £2.5k for dampers and springs but no top mounts. Look good but after some further thought, I decided to go for the Ohlins - keeps coming up with good reviews for the type of use I’m planning.Have you spoken to Quantum? They don't offer the Zero for the RX7 last time I checked, I emailed them and they advised they could build a set of four for £1,950 without ride height adjustment, only preload.
Thanks - you’ve summmed up the same conclusion I made. I actually ordered a set of Ohlins last week so just waiting for them to arrive now… just need some wheels and my “stage 1” works will be done!!I'll add my 2 cents here. A few years ago i was at the same point where you are now contemplating which premium suspension coilovers to go with.
My conclusion was the nitrons/quantums did not offer the flexibility I was looking for and their cheaper entry level models if you can call em cheap had no height adjustment without impacting the spring preload. This was a deal breaker for me right off the bat. Their 3 ways were too complex for me to understand how to setup well enough for a track day and I did not want to add this layer of complexity to something that is meant to be fun and simple to drive. If i was looking for a more track focused setup; there is no doubt the 3 way would require further consideration.
I compromised with the ohlins dfvs because i was looking for a simple single adjustable that could do road and some track days. To be honest the trackdays i did with the ohlins were great because i could drive to any track day with say 10 clicks from full hard and change the settings to suit the track. Than drive home on the setting i arrived with at the track day. The complexity of doing this simple task on the 3way nitrons or quantums was too complex a task for a noob like me to figure out.
Than there is also the maintenance schedule to take into consideration. Iirc the ohlins dfvs need a rebuild every 15-18,000 miles. I believe the Nitrons will also need a service between 12-18000 miles if used for street/ road use.
The bottom line for me was the ohlins dfv's offered better value than the competition and more current gen tech and consistent performance. The added benefit is the stock ohlins damping is also good enough for you to use 30% stiffer or softer springs. Although I will say the 11kgs springs are great for road use and some moderate track use. If you are a hardcore track addict than I would suggest harder springs like 13 or 14kgs and run them on the top 10 clicks from full hard.
I used to run the Feed F09 pro coilovers with the 18kgs springs rates front and rear on my fd and on track they were incredible...flat and hardly any roll whatsoever. However, I could not live with them for road use.....so they had to go.
