Anyone planning a visit to the Ring this year ? I hope to go again in May but still waiting for the dates to be released.

Last year six of us went and apart from the Ring we all had a great Craic.

Al

Yeah few of us doing one of the track days on the 25th May. Couple of FD’s going and some other stuff.

Book up (assuming there are still spaces left) would be good to see some other FD’s there

We go for around 4 nights on a weekend in May where it is open as a TF day for hopefully three days, it is really busy
but it is a way of getting to take some drive outs and seeing a couple of other places. we have a real mix of cars which is great fun.

I have not thought of doing an organised track day there, what is the format and who is it booked through so I can have a
look at some details..

Dates are now out, we are going from the 3rd to the 7th May, Ring is open On the 4th in the evening and all day on the
5th and 6th = happy days.

Here is a good video talking through the benefits of a track day. But to summarise they should work out better value as you’ll have less cars on there, less closures and a better style of driving. But mainly you don’t have to stop each lap, you can just keep going round

Looks good, I will look into one of these track days as the thought of less cars on the track sounds good
especially when you are as slow as me.:D will check prices, dates etc.

Who do you book through ?

I've been organising trips to the Ring since 2012 sadly Fischer keeps turning up ;)

Track days have several advantages but can be pricey and if the weather is shite you only have that one day to make the best of it. In the case of fog or snow it will close the track.

TF is way busier and closures are more likely but as we go for several days we usually get some decent laps in. Plus we do it more as a road trip with the Ring being almost secondary. Just being at the Ring with loads of other petrol heads is amazing.

Which ever way you choose to do it - you will have great time

Hi Alan, I wondered when you would turn up here, :) good to see you posting.

Get some pics up if you get time, and see you on the 11th.

Yeah the weather ruining things is a worry. If it’s wet that’s ok, can be a good way to learn your car and you can still have great fun. Track closure would be shit, but as it’s The end of May I’m hoping that’s unlikely, if it does would’ve thought the track day organisers would have to refund you if the track is unavailable?

Last year we had a few laps on the Friday evening, Sat weather was fine as was the track but on Sunday it was shite all day long and we stayed away, mist and rain this was at the beginning of May

The year before temp was around 30c for all 3 days, I had a Boxster S then and had the roof down all the time my head was as red a a lobsters aresole. this was also at the beginning of May, the week before we went they had snow.

Previous years we were there at the end of May and lost at least 1 day every year due to low mist and bad rain, the weather changes so quick you take
a chance whenever to go. fingers crossed that we all get lucky with the weather.

We normally do a trip once a year in sub 500 pound cars.

Took these two gems in the past:

This was a good trip, 7 up with luggage and managed a 13.29 lap:

this year there is talk of taking some half about cars. A few friends are heading over on the 25th of may but im not sure if im about

Anyone else on here going on the first week of May, it Looks like it will be my first track time in the 7, was looking
to do a shake down airfield day but time is running out.

Also there with a few others on the 25th. Fingers crossed the weather is OK. Just lost a day to snow at Silverstone GP today.

Around 3 weeks to go now and I am feeling all excited like a little kid waiting for Christmas.

having a few bits done to the 7 on Friday and then she should hopefully be all ready for the trip, I am a little bit concerned as the Ring will be my first track
day with her due to not being ready beforehand to take part in a UK track day, and I have only driven her 40 miles in one go so this
will tell if I have any reliability issues (Hopefully not).

I have done this trip 5 times before, 3 times in a RX8 and twice in a Boxster S so it will be interesting to see the difference in the 7, fingers crossed we all have another safe and trouble free trip.

If you have never been it is something that you should consider doing at sometime, possibly a 2019 FD Owners club trip.

5 weeks and we'll be on our way over too. Similar boat to you as well, haven't done a track day in my FD yet, only driven about 20 miles in it so far. I'm hoping to get a track day in before the Ring so it can highlight any issues before potentially wrecking the trip. Just sat at a car audio place with it waiting for them to sort the sounds out so I've got something to listen to on the way over there :)
