Midland Turbos - Hybrid Twins

Hi all,

I've searched and see plenty references to people sending turbos to Midland Turbos for rebuilds and also references to his hybrid option but searching for a little more info for user experience after fitting, mapping etc...

Can anyone share their the difference between a standard turbo and the hybrid option. Different usability power wise, ability to push the turbos harder when mapping? Any Dyno sheets of a hybrid set up, ideally on standard ports?

I've read that the manifold is a restriction so trying to understand the benefits of the hybrid option.

Difference in compressor wheel size as i had mine rebuilt/converted a few months ago by midland, actually yet to have them on the car and mapped to see the difference though. Im not expeccting any massive gains but as im sticking to twins and on stockports thought why not. It wasnt a massive additional cost for the conversion (£300 plus vat i believe excluding rebuild price) so i thought whilst theyre in there id get them done. I think Stu at rotortorque has mapped a few of these with the hybrid conversion and would be best to talk to.

What was the build time roughly?

Within a couple of weeks, though they had to order in new exhaust wheels for mine so i would expect usual turn around is quicker. I found their service great btw
And approximate cost?
That all boils down to what is needed once they open them up, worth firing them an email really. I had damaged exhaust wheels due to apex seals going through at some point which i didnt know (off another engine). For rebuild and hybrid conversion i recall was in the area of £800 i think

I've got a spare set of twins if anyone wants them for a rebuild / hybrid.

I bought a spare set from another member here with the intention of doing what you're suggesting, but have since gone single.

Hi Max,
Have you still got that set of twins? Is so how much do you want for them.
thanks

I still have them. Haven't even opened the package since recieving it.

I'm not really looking to make a profit on them, just take what's fair/going rate I guess

You're only down the road

Think I'm in London this weekend for work as well you know

I'll have another pack for sale in the next few months along with all my twin accessories.
PFC
Twin power
New apexi filters etc

Had mine rebuilt be Midland a few months back, didn't go for the hybrid option, but curious to hear about any performance differences. I think mine were in reasonable shape, so total cost for rebuild was £480.

spoke to stu today from rotor torque
He said he’s had a couple of these in his shop and that they are currently running in
And waiting for fine tuning, He thinks they could push 380bhp with out going mad.
which I’d be happy with to be fair.
So I’m currently taking the hybrid route,
Once I’ve got it bolted on and tuned I’ll post up the results alone with specs.

I've had mine done by Midland Turbos as well, quite a while ago now and they are still performing extremely well. They are great and service is great. Mine is hybrid twins with billet compressor wheel. My exhaust was very restrictive so I changed that and added a vmount. Only got the car back yesterday from mapping at Pip's and even Pip was surprised how well the car is making power. 372 BHP at 0.85 bar boost and 294lb/f torque. Tell you what on hybrid twins she is an absolute joy to drive. Power delivery is instant from low revs and it just keeps going. Can't even feel the second Turbo coming in now ... it's just gradual. Can't imagine it with more power :)

Good to hear, looking to get my car mapped as I've just fitted my rebuilt hybrid pack, out of curiosity were these figures on stock ports and what's the fuel setup?

Street Port and upgraded fuel pump and upgraded injectors. Not sure of the spec of the injectors though, sorry. They were supplied and fitted by Pip.
