Exhaust/Remap question

Morning all

Need to pick your knowledgeable brains.

I currently have a HKS downpipe, Racing Beat silenced Decat and an Apexi Ti exhaust system.

Mapped using a power FC by Jaydee

However I want to make it louder, would changing anyone of those components require a remap. Was thinking either..

change Silenced Decat to Straight Decat

Or

Make up another Cat back exhaust system using the same pipe diameters but potentially a smaller can on the back to make it louder.

I’m currentlt 97db standing but driveby it’s silent which I’m not a fan of? I like the high pitched sound of the Rx7 but mine is very low. Not sure how to achieve that haha???

How do you know it's silent on driveby if you're in the car?

If it's 97dB on idle I very much doubt it's silent at full throttle.

I do have a video of a track day I’ve just dines and a friend videoed my coming by and my mates Mx5 is louder and that’s quiet haha.

That does sound pretty odd, my car screams on boost with the stock cat thanks to the TGS backbox . Swap out the silenced midpipe if you want more noise, I can't imagine an Apexi N1 Ti being quiet. If the new midpipe is more free-flowing you may get a bit of boost creep, worth bearing in mind.

I thunk the high putch sound you're looking for cones from a bridge port or a 20b ? I don't think you can create that sound!
Are you trying to spend limited money? May be worth looking at something like an electronic exhast valve or a cheaper option a manual exhast valve!
Also they use shit on a track to deaden sound, as strage as it sounds, it may have been the angle of the exhaust on the mx5 that made it sound louder!
When these fds boost they are fecking loud! I had a nice single exit kit made up for my old rx8, was really quiet on idle but once I got up to 4k and above he would scream his tits off!
But as for the high pitch notes I'd bet my money on them being ported engines or even extra rotors! Take the 787b for example that screams like a girl!

Was going to say, when my car was on twins with a RE-A sports cat and some titanium cat-back thing it used to make a lot of noise on boost.

Swapping for a straight decat will certainly make it louder but will likely creep on boost.

Mine seems to cope well with unsilenced ! Stock boost pills. Creeps in 5th at about 120 mph!

I have always ran an straight unsilenced decat but mapped for it. Never any creep even at 1.2bar

The higher the boost the less chance of creep as the waste gate has to pass less gas .

I would say that it probably wouldn't need a remap. If you swapping an unrestrictive centre box out for an equally unrestrictive De cat pipe then there shouldnt be any issues.

Obviously the safe answer is anything exhaust related needs a remap.

If I’m honest I’ve got a small issue at the moment with overboosting. No idea what’s caused it. Was fine one day then the next it’s not.

So im going to take the opertuninity to get a FPR and fuel pump fitted then another remap anyway so wouldn’t really matter about needing another map. It’s more if it’s too loud after the map could i swap it back and no really worry.

Atm my boost levels prettt much stock so
Upping to a bar, would that enhance the sounds I’m seeing?

Out of interest what boost should you see abit 6k. Should it hold all the way up to Rev limit 0.8bar. Mine drops to 0.5/6 hmmmmmm

However jay says it was a nice easy tune for the freshly built engine though

should build to boost pressure and then stay there. If it drops then you could have either a leak or a sticky waste gate, well somethings not wokring.

Standard twins should boost fine to redline without dropping off tbh. Usualy dropping off at the top is a tiny hairline crack in a silicon/ rubber coupling that opens. Also Jason may well have mapped it low to ease in a fresh build. Give him a ring he will sharp put you right?

If i was to get a custom one made up. How much would said Racing Beat and Apexi be worth.

Would removing the Racing Bear and fitting a straight pipe make it terrible for noise. I don’t mind loud cars but it can’t be savage.

A straight pipe out the back would be bonkers! Have you ever heard a rotary with just a dp? I fired my 8 up with just a dp and fm 3 secs was enough. I shit my pants! I can't imagine a muff less fd
