Hi guys, boring thread I know. The car is coming off the road in a few days and have loads of work to do. I’m going to change the oil and my tuner said run 10w40 synthetic. But reading up on Essex rotary they said fully synthetic is a big no no.
What oil do you all run?

Cheapest possible 10/40 mineral and changed every 3k.

Done this for 14 years and never let me down. Even upon opening the engine it was well lubed before it chipped a seal.

I'm currently using a home bargains special 5ltrs for £11

i was under the impression if you still have OMP then use mineral, if not and pre-mixing then you can use whatever

Im amazed that people actually have a serious conversation on oil these days! Come on lads ffs. Theres been like a million threads on the forums since ive owned a fd!

And not 99% of the replies in them don't answer the question.

I've using GTX.

Because its an age old question! Just google what oil do i use in a fd rx7 and you will get......

remove omp and run full synthetic

I use mineral and its a must.....or.......

You must use semi synthetic

Or something along them lines because its an age old question!

I always ran the cheapest mineral stuff i could find and changed it every thousand to three thousand miles and never had any problem. Purely because as soon as its in its contaminated with fuel! Its how these wankers run!

Oil is frigging oil no matter what name you stick on it!

Not necessarily, you put the wrong oil grade in the new ford eco boost engines you get oil pressure problems.
I’m new to rotary and after spending so much rebuilding mine I don’t want to destroy it with something so simple like the wrong oil.

Did you have a builder build the engine?

If so ignore everything said above and go talk to the builder on what they'll warranty end of discussion.

Or go read the Mazda Factory Service Manual

I was told to use 10/40 mineral, castrol gtx or texaco havoline. Rebuild by Haywards, still has OMP. Hope its if help, btw i agree not much point in putting expensive oil in as it is knackered by fuel and the additives you are paying for, you just dont get your money out of them, as the oil us only in for a few 1000 miles.
