Copyninja Street FD - GT3 Build

Thought I'd update as we are all in lock down.

Some will be pleased to know the engine is still rotary.
Built by Tim at RX Motors
Large extended street port
Fully Studded
Goopy Apex seals
Built to handle over 500hp.

Tim will send over some pics soon but the engine is built and installed!

I have upgraded ECU to Link G4+ with the intention of running a windows tablet.

I need to source some oil cooler asap as thats the final piece of this puzzle!

Awesome that your staying rotary.

make sure you get a proper written warranty from Timmy if he is offering warranty.

Update - New Link G4 ECU delivered to Tim.

Luckily it already came with a used oem ecu housing. I will also look into getting a windows tablet to run real time parameters.

Let me know which tablet you settle on, I’d like a 7” - 10” for the same purpose. I think we need one that has USB-C for charge and to send/receive data from ECU.

Have you don’t any research yet ?

I haven't yet looked into a tablet yet but would prefer some like 10" dash mounted so its easy to monitor parameters, ideally an oled display if possible.

I've had a look at real dash pro and also red line tuning can also setup a custom dash as seen in the video below. They set it all up and even supply a tablet if you dont have one.

Yes I’m thinking something like this? Has USB 3.0 and separate DC power supply.

That look like an ideal solution. I want to mount it like its oem and came that way from factory. have you thought of any mounting solutions?

I haven’t looked at mounting yet but I’d like to put it somewhere in front of the double din slot which is currently empty, I’m not planning on running a stereo system.

If I recall though when I measured a 7” tablet would fit in the double din slot. I guess I depends if you are planning on running it as your main dash which I don’t plan to do.

mid your keeping the speakers in the car you can always run them off the tablet so you still have some music/radio if you wanted

Nice write up! Where are you planning on going for mapping?

I had an e92 M3 before this current FD thought it was abit too grown up for me!

That is a good idea, if you're not going to need that area.

I was thinking of something like this. Like how they are on modern cars. Might take some doing on an rx7 interior but def doable! `

Stu and Jaydee will do the map once it's run in.

Yh the M3 is certainly more grown up and because of that I've made small tweaks to mine with Stage 2 remap, KW V3 coilovers, 4s tyres, V1 steering wheel with shift lights all to make it more tight, responsive and eventful. However, the weight cant be hidden as the FD feels far more athletic and nimble in the corners but the M3 feels far more stable at high speeds and the power band is so smooth and linear. Did you find revving the v8 to 8500rpm addictive? ha

Update - sorted out the final piece of the puzzle to finish the car.

Got a new set of twin 19 row setrab oil coolers to keep the oil temps in check. I'm hoping these will be much better than the stock twin cooler.

Same as the sake bomb garage kit but got it from a Fellow Fd owner directly from the U.K
Hopefully Tim should have it next week. Link Below

Just installed this kit on mine (see thread if you like) yet to run the car but it finishes the front end off and you wont see scabby old coolers through the bumper vents also (y)

I made my own twin setrab kit a couple of years ago back then you could not get them from the uk as a kit.. those are nice mounting brackets in that advocult kit.

btw I wouldn't trust that mocal thermostat. I had one and it was stuck open apparently they do this a lot.

In the end I bought the mishimoto one. Lifetime warranty and its way nicer with a built in heatsink.

I've heard stu/jaydee is the only place to take it, I need to book in when the isolation is over!

High reving V8, it was the only way to drive it!

I did a day at Combe in it, completely standard and really noticed the weight of it! Plus it was DCT.

Nice I was looking at cheaper ebay coolers but then I settled on these 19 row setrabs as sake bomb garage use the same setup and their stuff is premium top quality. Do it once do it right and all that!

Defo think these should help keep oil temps below 95*C on track use with good ducting and a decent vmount kit. Not certain if my stock coolers were doing a good enough job for track! Plus the setrabs look soo cool like u said!

For now i think ill keep it mocal thermostat as sake bomb garage and advocult also run the same thermostats and none have reported a failure yet on their kits that I'm aware of.

Hopefully it won't fail and works as it should.

Me too, I will book when there is less chance of getting fined as they are 3hr drive from mine! Makes it a whole day affair to get it mapped!

Haha thats it...so addictive.

Ha nice looks soo good and DCT makes complete sense on track. It's an awesome gearbox. I am hoping to put a e92 m3 dct gearbox in an fd rx7 but first I need my rx7 fully working and functional! Ha
