Hi,

Are there any recommended heavy duty boot gas struts which can keep the boot open with a BGW installed? Its kind of embarrassing every time I open the boot it just falls right back down. Not sure if its the BGW or if the 30yr old struts need replacing. Any recommended UK source?

Is the bgw much heavier than one of the standard spoilers?

Just bend the gas strut a little bit. Just enough that it stays up. You won’t even notice it

Second these guys ! You send off your old struts as they need the brackets for the new ones. Tell them you have a wing and they put more pressure in. My boot flies open with a big mazdaspeed wing on. (y)

My tailgate slowly creeps up to full height at just the right speed to allow all the water in the rear window seal groove to come out without going inside the car.

I wonder if Mazda actually tested it in the rain before going into production and realised how poor of a design it was, even worse if parked on a slope!

I just have a 99 spec with carbon wing, bought some used ones off eBay and they fall down too.

Would love to get some new ones! I actually have my original set I can send off so might give those guys a shout!

I think it's a proud tradition of car manufacturers, a friend has a Tesla 3, and its boot is even worse than the Rx7's, hard as that is to believe.
Basically it's got a fancy hinge, which means that the lid ends up completely vertical over the open boot, and so just dumps all the water on everything in the boot.

Installed the struts earlier and they're rubbish just as bad if not worse than before..... They recommended 10% increase but it's not good enough for just a boot lid with 99 spec spoiler (no parcel shelf)

Did anyone else pick a percentage when they sent their to SGS?

I would have thought you'd need to increase 30-40% over stock? Did they recommend you only go 10%?

Can you not send them back?

So SGS asked me to weigh the boot lid but this is the best I could come up with, anyone got an idea if this is close.....

i remember sending them a picture showing the mazdaspeed wing and they just put a fair amount more in it. In summer i can pop open the release and sometimes it opens itself.

Just had a look back through my emails. I asked them to go belt and braces and up the pressure by a decent amount.
