As above really, i want to get the whole car up and give the sills and metalwork a good clean up and treat everything over the winter so where is best for axle stand placement?

I normally chuck huge sleepers/ramps under the wheels. Either that or the subframes, again with chunks of wood.

Depends what you mean by best I guess. Best for safety is wacking them on the sill seams, but the thought of that alone makes me cringe!

To give the underside a proper go over you'll want access to the sub frames, so I'd go with something like this using decent blocks of wood to spread the load:

Or if the wheels are staying on, stack breeze blocks under the wheels works well and is safe.

Oh! I forgot to add, I made little spacers for the pinch welds using hockey pucks with a groove cut into them.

Yep i use the blocks of wood but trying not to use the sill seams because those are an area i want to clean and treat. I'd happily use breeze blocks under the wheels so will look at that. I guess just place them under opposite corners first then do the remaining two. handbrake on and in gear 🤦‍♂️

Your last pic Tom where are those rear stands under? Is mainly the rear position where in struggling to find somewhere suitable to support the car.

When I support the car on wheels I just do both fronts first, chock them, then do the rears. Then handbrake and in gear.

I would normally go on the subframes

I've been bothered by this because I always jack on the suspension mounting points of the two subframes but it seems the soundest place to jack from.
When I got the car I did the usual jacking on one of the cills and there was a small amount of upward flex that wasn't too great.
I wouldn't even want to do it with spreader plates/wood etc.

I jack the subframe up front and diff for the rear. I put the wood just inside of the sills for the rear axle stands, wouldn't want to damage my sills as they're nice, strait and the paint is good on them.

Does that low access jack get in under the front bumper dude?..

I've got a 75mm low entry jack and still have to drive the front up onto small blocks to get the required clearance. Usually have to go in from the side too, the lip is too low.

Loads of room up back, can always get to the diff.
