Hey chaps,

I am thinking of doing my dash, door-cards and rear plastic panels in Alcantara. I have watched a number of videos and read posts online and the one saving grace the RX has is a fairly simple dash shape :) It doesn't look too hard to do.

Just wondered if anyone has given it a go and if so any tips?

Had mine done you do need to stitch above the glove box bit as shown on my dash (done in silver/grey)

If attempting yourself for the first time don’t use alcantara get a cheap material and try with that first till your comfortable to apply alcantara on as alcantara is expensive

Just waiting to go collect my door cards.

Tis exactly the sort of thing I am after :) May I ask why does the stitching need doing? Is it due to the slight indent around that area?

That is lovely.

How much is something like that going to set me back roughly? Just the dash.

It may look simple, but it does get a bit fun, all depends on how decent the material is and how it will stretch to conform to the shape. I did one about ten years ago, was a bit of a ball ache, but looked good in the end after much cursing. I did the dash plastics also, the meter gauge panel was a right bastard.

Still, alcantara is way easier than stuff I've tried leather wrapping.

My plan is to just do the dash, centre console bit (the fake leather part that the gear stick surround clips into), door cards and the rear speaker panels.

I would love to add some quilted buts to the concaved parts of the door cards but that is defiantly beyond my rubbish sewing skills....although I do know a lady pretty handy with a sewing machine.

Yes due to the indent it can’t just be smoothed over unless your filling the indent in.

Ah cool

Hmm may pick up 2nd hand dash and have a play. I know a lady who is good at sewing will have a word

Haha

It’s a thick material just be careful.

Buying a dash and genuine alcantara (there are fakes out there) will cost you £600-£800

Your looking at around £1200 just the dash.

Genuine Alcantara is 70 quid a linear meter. You need one linear meter for a dash but let's say you use two.

Does that mean you paid 1060 quid labour for half a day's work?

If anyone wants a retrim just buzz my mate sg styling in Leeds. in genuine Alcantara the dash, door cards, a pillars, rear quarter panels, the bubble panel above the Speedo and the bottom bit of the gear stick surround. 1250 + vat. (Price is Inc forum discount tell him Nas sent you)

He's already got templates made up from my car, he's done shit loads of FDs. Choose your colour / type of material and what colour stitching you'd like.

Search SG styling on Facebooks and instantgram.

You can get the material cheaper but it’s the quality you pay, we do have the cheaper material for those who don’t like to spend as much but it tends to fade and wear faster.

Prices in Leeds to get car work done are cheaper then in London. Depending where in the country you live some people may not want to travel as it will cost near the same amount with travelling.

Yea genuine alcantara it's 70 quid a linear metre. Not the fake crap that's a tenner for 10 meters.

London price?! Lol

Book a van and being your stuff up or even drive up here in the rx7. You would still save thousands.. Leeds is in the middle of the country and its only going to cost a tank or two in fuel and a train ride home.

Yorkshire is a really nice place to visit too. Come for a holiday..

I’m in Manchester every few months.

A meter of quality alcantara is £100-£130 per meter.

Yes the cheaper stuff costs us just under £70 a meter.

If someone is chargeing £1500 with vat and you have to travel all the way costing in region of £100 fuel in rex and train ticket £50-£80. Would make sense on paying someone local £1800 for the full job. Works out the same cost.
