99 twins - I need a new manifold, right?

I want to rebuild my 99s and get them on the car next year but I think my manifold can't be saved or used judging by the types of cracks. What do you think and what is my best route to sourcing a good manifold that fits the N3G1s?

Your best bet is most likely keeping an eye on Japanese auctions that normally have N3G1's available used. Should they supply condition pictures that clearly show the secondary turbine manifold in good nick with no cracks present then you'll be on a winner. I believe they are N3G1 specific because the turbine inlet of the manifold is roomier compared to N3C1 or older.

Ive seen worse to be fair still performing well.

That's what I thought. Thanks man. Wish the manifold was in better shape. I don't want to rebuild them and get them on the car to have boost or smoking issues in short order.

You can't repair them in some way? It's just metal right? 😋
emm yeah you could probibly try and get the tig werlder out and seal up the cracks however not sure how long it will last. just make sure the actuators are free ect

Ah this is the problem with twins! If mine do this and create boost trouble I think that will push me into going single!

Yeah, you can weld them, would have to cut out a v down into the cracks until they stop then tig it back up with a high nickel rod. A little machining to flatten the flanges and it should be good.

They look one of the best condition manifolds I've seen tbh, cracks ok are there, but minimal.

If your wanting it perfect thought a good welder should have no problem repairing it.

Just get a standard manifold and have it port matched to new gaskets, you can also have the wastegate penny's opened up a little and smoothed out. It's then a case of decent ceramic coating to protect and move the heat further downstream. It's worth having the turbine housings coated as well, this will help both sides.

This was mine and they were still boosting away. That's not to say these are in anyway acceptable and i certainly wouldn't have used them again.

Wow!

I will see if Stu knows a good TIG welder or fab shop that can tak eon the challenge of cleaning up the manifold for me. I really want to get these on the car and run them at 1.0 bar with more water.

I toyed with the idea of doing a dyno with my current setup at 1.0 bar in the morning near Rotor Torque's shop, then removing and installing the 99s, tuning the car again for 1.0 bar and then hitting the dyno in the late afternoon on the same day. Just to see the difference. However, cost wise it wouldn't make any sense for me to bear the cost but for research purposes it would be really useful since no one that I am aware of has done a back to back comparison yet with the same car in similar conditions.

Yeah, would be really interesting to see the results, if you do get chance to do that.

With a crowd funding campaign maybe I can! Both RX7 Facebook pages for funding on Kickstarter or something...
