I'm having difficulty sourcing some other wheels I like but have come across the Advan RG3's which seem to be available. Any opinions on either:

1. Staggered - front 17 x 8 et38 240/40 tyre / rear 17 x 9 et 35 265/35 tyre
2. Square - 17 x 9 et 35 240/40 tyre

The car is on Ohlins DFV's and has standard arches.

Depends on the look you want but those offsets seem way high.

I used to run:
17x8 et32 - front
17x9 et38 - rear

These were so sunken in. Especially with -1.5deg camber.

So, i threw on 15mm spacers front and rear. Then, life was good.

Also you may be limited on good 240/40 section tyres.

If you need pics i can find some later when i get out of meetings

Thanks for this. I just want to avoid the sunken look and fill the arches without getting any rubbing.

I’m running a 17x19 ET18 set up all round with 255/40 rears and 235/40 fronts if it helps.

Depends what tyres you intend to run and how you intend to use the car. I have MS01S wheels with Federal RSRs 235/45 front, 255/40 rear. The MS01S wheels are 8.5" ET40 and 9.5"ET38. The tyres fit square and to me everything looks about right. I'm more function over form though and on track use every bit of suspension travel, so it's important to have the clearance. I also prefer to stick close to the stock front offset, so the steering geometry remains as intended. With Ohlins DFVs set as they come out of the box, the front tyres will rub on the chassis leg and wear a hole in the arch liner. This is through the fast compressions at the 'ring. I've fitted 13kg/mm springs at the front and raised the car slightly all round. I raised the front dampers on the body and lowered the spring platform slightly with the aim of hitting the bump stop on the damper before the tyre makes contact. I tested the deflection by taking out the spring, refitting the damper and raising the wheel.

If nothing else I would consider going 0.5" wider on the wheels for option 1. My spare/winter setup uses the same tyres on the RS wheels (8 & 8.5") and they don't look quite right.

Also, have you sanity checked those tyre sizes? Are they even available? You would probably want a 40 profile on the rear.

Dunno. Never rubbed mine once.

17x8 et17 225/45
17x9 et23 245/40

-1.5deg camber

Ground to fender @ CL wheel:
630mm front
645mm rear

10kg front
8kg rear

standard sways

I plan mainly to use my car for general enjoyment and occasional track days - I have a DC5 for that!

There isn't a lot of choice on the width of 17" wheels - I took the options available from Advan's website, hence the 8" or 9" options. Are you using 17" or 18" MS01S wheels?

You're right about the tyres - I think it would be 235/40 tyre either all around or with a 255/40 rear if staggered.

I also have MS01S (17") with the same tyre sizes mentioned above. Perfectly functional and I get no rubbing at all with the car as low as I'm comfortable running on our crappy roads.

They do look a little sunken in the arches and could do with a slightly more aggressive offset (or spacer) to get the flush look. I'll see if I have any pics to show this...

Best I've got is this crappy pic. Can just about make out the sunken-ness, particularly the rear. Looks a bit worse in person now it's a little lower. Depends how much you care about the flush look I guess

I'm using 17" wheels like the above pic in silver (fine choice of wheel Terry!). Track bias tyres usually measure around 10mm wider. 235/45 is the common size rather than 40. It's what Mazda chose anyway.

Thanks a lot for the helpful replies!

It seems that the standard arches can tolerate lower offsets - what about 17x9 et 22 with a 235x40x17 tyre? Anyone using that?
