Hi guys,

Hoping someone has had this issue before and fixed it! I bought an Innocent Blue FD a few months ago. The odo screen looks like this:

Is it possible to replace the screen or does the whole cluster have to be replaced? As the only cluster I have found is currently listed for £450! Thanks in advance!

Looks like hazing/burning on the plastic. You can replace the speedo, its not difficult just time consuming as you have to be carefull with all the plastics. You may be able to clean it up with a mild abrasive polishing compound

Im not sure it’s on the plastic as it looks fairly normal when the power is off. I will give it a go though. Can’t make it worse. Thank for the suggestion.

Not seen that issue before. Seems an odd one. You can get another odometer screen and replace it but I’ve been told that’s quite a time consuming process. Out of curiosity why is your Speedo needle sat above zero when I assume you’re stationary?

It almost looks like condensation, hence i assumed was some sort of burning into plastic screen face.

I have this issue. Sometimes it shows the mileage but then again it goes all orange. Not sure what it is.

The odoscreen is rarely the issue so you'd have a pretty safe bet buying a dead Speedo and replacing. Pretty sure I've seen some replace with a new screen but never looked into it. But yes it is possible, how easy it will be depends on the kit you have access to.

Your issue is slightly different. In OP's picture you can see the digits being shown if you zoom in and look closely, it looks like the actual screen is fubar. Yours, like Paul said is probably the caps.

Managed to get the cluster out.

It’s definitely fucked. Will probably have to replace the speedo. I haven’t found any just speedos for sale (normally the whole cluster). Does anyone know where I can get one from?

I assume replacing the Speedo still keeps the original mileage?

Mileage is stored on chip on speedo, there is a thread on here about which chip and how to change mileage.

You may be able to just change the screen if you can find one and are handy with a soldering iron

I was hoping the mileage wasn’t stored in the Speedo unit and I could just swap it out. Sounds like that’s not going to be possible!

I’m also useless with a soldering iron! Need to have a think about what to do now!

You can actually de-solder that chip and reinstall it on a new cluster when you come across one. Another option would be to find someone who can adjust mileage chips...just write down your mileage, buy another cluster (or just speedo) and have someone alter it. Tbh im curious as to how the screen got like that🤔

That looks burnt, like its been in a fire or had a corrosive substance left on it.
Don't know but there may be another speedo of same era using that display. Other than begging on the Facebook groups for a broke speedo, I'm at a loss as what you could do.

To be honest I’m just going to bite the bullet and buy a cluster. I’m waiting on Mazda to call me back to see if they can source a Speedo but unlikely.

It looks like a burn of some sort. No idea what has happened. Although there was some substance around the connectors that looked like a capacitor had leaked or something.

I know someone who had a speedo for sale. In fact I think they had a speedo and a cluster. Can pass on their details if you are interested. If you can get your speedo to them, then the chip can get swaped over too. I can't remember if it was converted to mph and calibrated or not.

Thinking about it, he also has a fucked one that could be used to get the odo screen from and swap over.

Thanks for the offer mate. Another forum member has reached out with a solution as well so I will explore that first.

I will shoot you a message though if it doesn’t pan out. Cheers though.
