So I hope this is allowed, Bubbletech in the US are doing a group buy on Rx7club for their improved updated oem map lid
(the armrest thingy on your drivers door that you put your elbow through on the day you collected it - oh maybe that's just me :p)
They need 20 people to put their name forward in order to start production then they'll require 20 dollars deposit. Total cost is about 115 dollars plus shipping.

I've already put my name down, for anyone else interested link is below or alternatively if we can get a list on here I can forward it on.

So I've spoken to bubbletech, their happy for me to create a list of people who want one on here. Deposits won't be required until we have the numbers, so right now I just need to know who wants one.

Thats real sweet but.... 80 quid? Really? I payed 30 for the lid which I though was a piss take!

JOINED! Thanks Cullen for starting Tom for starting this thread. The only difference between 3 to 4 is we've just perfected the fitment a little better. We've extended each side (so it will be proportionate vs just on side) and the results show the tight gaps!

For those who are unaware of our map lids, we've been designing and manufacturing map lids since 2014 (as we're on V4 which I believe will be the final version!).

Here are some of the design improvements:
Cracks
- all the interior parts such as the map lid pocket, dash vents, etc are prone to cracking and disintegrating due to the heat making them brittle. Our solution- using a resin with the Heat Deflection temps of 230*+.

Roll pin- The plastic surrounding/plastic dowel pin tends to take a lot of friction and force causing a stress fracture in the plastic hinge. We addressed this by reinforce the area (widening and filling in the voids) and adding a metal screw in roll pin.
Spring tension- the spring tension on the cam is WAY to strong- This lies underneath the map pocket compartment. Instead we change the angle of the Cam that the spring rolls on, this relieves pressure and less "kick" when it opens and closes.
Strength- To ensure these last longer than the brittle stock plastics we have increased the thickness of the map lid by ~55% (It really works, check out our video of our lid withstand 185lbs!) In addition we filleted the inner seams to add more rigidity, much like a "rib cage" perimeter and filled in the hollow voids on the cam and thickened it.
Ease of installation- To replace the OEM lid and tension spring, it will require you to remove your door panel. This means, another chance for you to break more of that brittle plastic trim (yikes!). We designed our lid with ease of installation in mind. Simply place the lid in place, and screw in the metal screw pin from the outside and you're done!

You did very well to find on for £30 man, got quoted £140 for one at Mazda the other day. On RHDjapan they're about £100 posted I think. Very rare to find one second hand intact too

Unfortunately they're one of the most overpriced pieces on an rx7 but they always bloody break haha

I have one of these on my car from a previous FD:UK group buy and it's tough alright, and matched the surround trim well too. In fact when I dropped the car off for some work last year and an unsuspecting mechanic used it as an arm rest, the nib in the pocket broke off instead of the lid shattering...

Shame Bubbletech don't make a replacement for the whole map pocket....

For me it was easy enough to tap a small bolt in to replace the nib, so all good :)

Bloody hell that's bonkers! I remember they were expensive when I was looking in the past but I didn't realise how expensive they were! Tbf though 80 quid is decent when you look at the prices of rhd and mazda!

I'm half tempted to get one, as I sat on mine in day 2 of ownership

You sat on it ? What you doing sitting on the door card haha I propped myself up on mine the day I picked it up struggling to get my lanky self out, elbow blew straight through it

DAY 1
Shut the door, lid fell off onto seat, unbeknownst to me
DAY 2
Sat on seat with map lid under my arse, broke it

I'll have a look what finish mine is tomorrow and get one ordered I think :) Currently hungover from a messy works do

Messaged bubble tech this morning, they have been busy working on the moulds for lhd lids and other products which are nearly done. Once they're complete, production for rhd lids will be under way. Hopefully not long!

Great, was thinking this had gone dead. I dont see the point in buying a good used one as that will break in days with me in the car.
