Rear tie-down "tow" hooks

Fairly new owner here, at least in terms of using the car after having hiden it away for winter.

I have a racingbeat back box on the car but its producing a nice knocking sound against the chassis once in a while with bumps in the road etc. and having recently changed the coilover springs all round and evened out the ride height its safe to say its stressing me out! I have not looked deep under the car just yet but it seems to just be catching on the rear tie-down hook (FD0156251B for reference in case this thread ends up helping others searching) at the exhaust tip, hence i've got a couple of questions on them if anyone can help.

1. Are/can the rear hooks used for towing at all or are the just for shipping tie down as some googling reveals varying answers. (amayama naming them tie-down hooks, but varies elsewhere)
2. Is there any disadvantage to removing the tie downs/hooks? (generally or more extreme such as the bolts reinforcing anything else?)
3. How much of a PITA is it to remove them? Any need to take the bumper off, drop the exhaust, etc.?
4. If its catching on the hook on the outside slightly, whats the likelihood of it catching elsewhere if the hanger is removed, or is there any likelihood that a bigger issue further forward with the exhaust that's causing the issue exhaust/hanger alignment wise?

TIA

PS 90% sure im overthinking this but it never hurts to ask.

I don't see any problem removing the rear tie down hook, it's just a couple of bolts and nothing else is attached to them. Easy to get to with normal tools.
I would be looking at why you have knocking issue though, exhaust and engine mounts, I have racing boat dual tip and not had any problems with knocking.

I have suspected needing engine mounts as theres been a bit of vibration at low revs but thats also been contributed to by it being moved about and not up to temp over winter somewhat.

Removing the hook seems like easiest quick fix until the mounts get checked out.

It generally sits very close, ive attached some pictures now too, and wobbling it by hand gets within a couple millimeters
