What is the recommended running temperature for the oil in an fd? Finally got my defi temp gauge working and it's only getting up to around 62*c. From what I can tell, the dual oilcoolers that have been fitted are not the stock ones so unsure if I should fit a thermostat inline if the temps need to be higher?

From what ive read on other forums it shouldn't be ran over 210°f or 98°c mine usually sits between 150-185°f or 65°c-85°c even with harsh driving and she's always happy I would expect it all depends on what oil you use also my figures are with 15w40 mineral and have stock dual oil coolers hope that gives you an idea

In order to evaporate any water and fuel that contaminate the oil you want it to be getting up into the mid to high 80's. An 85°c stat would likely crack at c.82°c and give full flow up in the low 90's

Ideally upper limit should be c.98°c as Caine_1989 states although cars in hot climates with only the single stock cooler can easily climb over this and people who have those don't have catastrophic failure.

Thanks for the replies, taped up one of the coolers today and went for a drive and still only got up to around 68*c. Will have to look into fitting a thermostat
