Hi guys, im recently back to the fd scene after a long 6 years, with my latest purchase yesterday.
The car drives really well, but after a visit to wgt today for a power run and a compression test pip has mentioned my oil pressure.
The aftermarket guage is showing around 0.5-0.7 bar at idle and is averaging 2.5bar at 3500/4000 rpm.
Ive tried an anologue guage and its showing more or less the same base idle pressure but is reaching 3.8/4 bar pressure at 3500/4000 rpm.
Pip has made me aware i should be looking at around 2 bar idle and anywhere up to 6 bar under load ? Im not questioning pips professional opinion but looking for other peoples readings too.
After having a chat with pip he has mentioned starting and working his way through this process:
Thermal pallet,
Kinks in pipework etc,
Oil regulators i think it was?,
Sump,
Front cover o ring,
Worst case bearings.
I come from the age where you could pick up a nice clean example for 4.5k so after dropping 14k yesturday im really worried about the possibilty of it being the bearings and requiring a rebuild, bearing in mind this car was rebuilt 4000 miles ago last year, but by haywood rotary unfortunately.
Basically im just wondering if anyone has any advice, any common faults i can go through myself, or just any recommendations would be helpful, obviously i understand these piss money in the wind but if it was to come to a rebuild i would have too look at selling the car and salvage what money i can back and this is a road i dont want to go down.
Any help is grately appriciated and tia.
Dan.
