Hello everyone,

Snetterton is arguably the cheapest yet best track day available in March, and could be a good circuit to attend to kick off the year for track days with club members. Who is in?

It's really a fantastic circuit that is technical and has two large straights. On the Bentley straight in a 350hp twins car you will get over 130 mph on the Bentley straight. Big fun!

105dB static
92dB drive-by (but mic is further away so just drive on the outside lane of the main straight (not near the wall).

I'll see, croft have days in march also but will certainly do snet again this year

Unfortunately I can't make the 10th March. Not that I have a car for it mind

Dare I say were this a potentially warmer track day I would be up for bringing both the RX-7 and the Mustang out so you may have something to drive at 6/10ths! Subject to helping cover the track day cost for two cars of course :p

After last year, I wouldn't say that I'm in a hurry to do Snetterton again. A mate of mine is also going in a few weeks and was trying to twist my arm. Don't get me wrong, I still think it's a great track, so maybe I'll soften up to it. Would like to visit some other tracks that i haven't yet driven this year though.

Yeah, me too. It just happens to have the best price in March.

What other track would interest you? Oulton Park is fun but quite far away, as is Anglesey. Donington is good as well but so pricey.

I like the idea of trying out Bedford Autodrome but I don't think anyone could join me as everyone's cars will be too loud.

Croft is a summer idea as it's far up north with not a lot of run off in places.

I would love to do Brands GP but the price is crazy. Same with Silverstone.

I don't desire the smaller places like Cadwell, Mallory, Thruxton or Castle Combe. Harder on the car, small, and potentially a bit dirty so might fuck up paint? Or am I wrong about those?

Oulton and Donnington are at the top of my list. When i last looked, there were reasonably priced days at Donny in April, but as soon as you get to May the price skyrockets.

Brands GP is silly money and so few days there. I'd like to do SIlverstone again, but really only winter months that aren't silly money.

Yeah, I wouldn't enjoy Cadwell and Mallory in a FD. Thruxton is a seriously fast track but has a really low noise limit, so no chance for most FDs to pass a 92 static. Most FDs would probably set off the drive by sensors at Bedford (although yours would probably be ok, and I would have been willing to try my luck). Combe would be fun in a FD, but there are a few dangerous sections with no runoff like Avon Rise, which you'd have to be mindful of.

Did Croft last year and would recommend it.

I'm going to be in a RX-8 for the foreseeable future, so the tighter more technical circuits are more appealing in one of them.

Happy to look into Oulton Park for 17th or 24th March as an alternative although it's £40-50 more expensive than Snetterton and further to travel.

Also, Anglesey on 3rd July, 3rd August or 14th September could be a good event to attend, and we could bolt on an Evo Triangle, Betws-y-Coed, Caernarfon, etc. road trip to the deal for the weekend around the track day.

I'd be game for a combined Anglesey visit and Welsh road trip in Aug/Sep. (y)

Ok, let's see if we get traction on that idea.

As for March, Snetterton is way easier to do but we could try to risk Oulton Park on 29th February, a Saturday and I'm sure it will be quite cold....The issue with Oulton is most days are on a Tuesday and it's too damn far away to do the track day if I need to take Monday and Tuesday off work. Always happy to take a single day but not two unless we do what we are talking about doing with Anglesey and making a weekend out of it.

I'm doing Cadwell on 2 March, so 29th Feb wouldn't be ideal timing for me. I agree that taking 2 days off for a track day isn't ideal. For my visits to Blyton and Croft last year I took 1.5 days so that could travel up the afternoon before. When we did Blyton in 2018 it was a bit brutal driving up after work and getting there so late.

Add me to the list Roy, I have a new exhaust now so shouldn't run in to noise problems again 😆

Hey,

Following up on this. I'm thinking of booking and doing Snetterton on the 10th of March. One of my friends wants to take his car there as well.

Doesn't matter which car you bring. I may even bring the Mustang for shits and giggles.

Interested?
